Residents and businesses on the mauka side of Kīlauea Avenue, located between ‘Ōhea and Puainako streets in South Hilo, will face a temporary water shutdown on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply (DWS) will be conducting the installation of a new waterline connection during this time.
After the water service is restored, DWS officials advise that residents may experience turbid or discolored water as the lines are flushed and cleaned. Additionally, trapped air in the plumbing may be released after water is first used. Affected customers should take precautions, including disabling electrical power to pumps that rely on water pressure, and should store drinking water in advance to prepare for the outage. For further inquiries, residents can reach out to DWS District Supervisor Danny Taka, Jr. at (808) 961-8790.
