HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On Friday morning, more than 4,300 residents in Nanakuli and Waianae found themselves without electrical power. According to Hawaiian Electric maps, outages in the region began at around 9:30 a.m. In addition to the power issues, reports indicate that traffic lights are nonfunctional.
In cases where traffic signals are down because of power outages, drivers are advised to treat intersections as all-way stops. Meanwhile, Hawaiian Electric has commenced a series of meetings, beginning Thursday in Kapolei, aimed at addressing the company’s reliability in light of recent Kona storms and hurricanes. Resident Leticia Hernandez expressed concern regarding inflation compounding the challenges faced on the leeward coast. Though the meeting was intended for public input, Hawaiian Electric was not obligated to respond to questions, leading some attendees to feel the meeting’s location was disconnected from their concerns.
