Hawaii Reports Eighth Case of Travel-Related Dengue Virus on Oahu
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Department of Health in Hawaii has confirmed another case of dengue virus on Oahu, marking the eighth case reported in the state this year.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Department of Health in Hawaii has confirmed another case of dengue virus on Oahu, marking the eighth case reported in the state this year. The individual contracted the virus while visiting a location where dengue is prevalent. Health officials have found no links between this case and previous dengue cases in Hawaii.
In response to this incident, DOH teams are actively inspecting the affected region and implementing mosquito control strategies. Although the risk of local transmission is currently assessed as low, residents are advised to mitigate the presence of standing water, which promotes mosquito breeding. Dengue virus is primarily transmitted from infected individuals to mosquitoes and then to other people, and while mosquitoes capable of carrying the virus exist in Hawaii, dengue is not endemic to the state. All eight cases in 2026 have involved travel to Pacific Island nations.
