HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – Every Story Matters Week is currently being observed at public libraries throughout Hawaii. State librarian Stacey Aldrich noted that this week aligns with the American Library Association’s Banned Books Week. “Our challenge is not everybody agrees on what stories matter and it’s a hard place to hold because we want to create space for everybody,” said Aldrich.
Aldrich emphasized the importance of recognizing every story, mentioning the library’s efforts to ensure diverse narratives are accessible. Between now and October 10, libraries will feature special displays where visitors of all ages can share their significant stories, browse the library’s collection, and learn from shared experiences. The displays will reflect themes relevant to Hawaii, fostering a reminder of the freedom to read and the richness of exploring various cultures and histories.
