HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A Polish man, Dawid Nalepa, aged 45, has been charged for allegedly voting unlawfully as an alien. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Hawaii announced the charges against Nalepa on Thursday.
Nalepa reportedly entered the U.S. via the Visa Waiver Program in or around 2020 but overstayed his visa before seeking permanent resident status. Court documents indicate that he was not a U.S. citizen when he participated in the November 2024 general election. Prosecutors claim Nalepa was aware of his non-citizen status while casting his vote. If found guilty, he could face penalties including up to one year in prison, fines reaching $100,000, and a period of supervised release. The case is being investigated by Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Arisa Herman handling the prosecution.
