HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard executed a medevac for a 55-year-old crew member experiencing medical issues aboard the U.S.-flagged cargo ship Ocean Gladiator, located approximately 86 miles off Hawaii. The alert was raised around 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday when watchstanders at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center in Honolulu were notified of the situation.
At that time, the Ocean Gladiator was reported to be about 540 miles southeast of Hawaii Island. Following a consultation with a duty flight surgeon, the decision was made to medevac the crew member once the vessel reached 86 miles offshore. An MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point successfully retrieved the individual at 8:35 a.m. on Wednesday and transported him to Hilo International Airport for medical attention.
