Creating Community-Centric Spaces in Hawai‘i

The third installment in HONOLULU Magazine’s series on the significant contributions of Hawai‘i contractors highlights Gary Oda, president of Allied Builders System. Oda emphasizes that vital places like schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial centers play a fundamental role in community development. His journey into the construction sector was unconventional, stemming from a background in accounting and finance.

Since taking charge in 2001, Oda has overseen numerous projects across Hawai‘i, including the revitalization of the Diamond Head Theatre and the transformation of a downtown building into the AC Hotel. One notable venture, the ʻŌlauniu project, spans 9 acres and aims to infuse retail and dining spaces along with a gathering area, all while honoring local cultural practices. Oda highlights the company’s commitment to collaborate with a skilled team, asserting that their efforts significantly contribute to strengthening Hawai‘i’s communities.
