HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – In preparation for the IRONMAN World Championship taking place on October 10 in Kailua-Kona, the FBI Honolulu, along with its partners, will be enforcing temporary flight restrictions mandated by the FAA. Drone operators are urged to verify airspace regulations using the FAA-approved B4UFLY app.
Ryan C. Noonan, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Honolulu, stated, “To keep athletes, spectators, and the community safe, our agents and law enforcement partners—under Department of Justice authority—can use specialized detection tools to identify and seize drones that violate Temporary Flight Restrictions.” Violators could face civil penalties of up to $75,000, criminal fines up to $100,000, a year of imprisonment, and the potential confiscation of their drone. The FBI encourages the public to report any suspicious drone activities by calling 911.
